Dune Express

I am trying something new for my print and play project this week. Before I invest a lot of time, effort and supplies into a game I am not familiar with, I made a very cheap and easy copy of the game Dune Express. Dune Express is an area control game set in the Dune universe. The goal is to try and control a number of the areas on the map. The central area does not count towards this goal, but is necessary for troop deployment. The main fature of the game is the seven dice. These dice control the number of troops you can deploy, where the troops can deploy and a number of other effects such as poison that can hurt your enemies. You basically roll the dice any number of times you want, but you must keep one die from every roll until you have results for all of the dice. Also needed for the game are a number of counters to show which side is in control of an area. I am simply using gaming beads for these pieces for the time.

The only thing you need to make this game are: paper, 7 dice (I would recommend 16mm dice), tape, scissors and markers. I simply printed out the entire game onto 5 sheets of paper, cut out the different sides for the dice, taped the dice up, cut out the three game markers, found some gaming tokens and read the rules. I hope to play this game soon and make a determination about whether I will take the time to make a better version of it.

  2. However you design it, one thing I would recommend you include in the gameplay is to keep it VERY cutthroat. It just fits the setting so well, don't you think? ;)
