Gencon 2010 - FFG announces Lord of the Rings Cooperative LCG

Nobody should be surprised that Fantasy Flight Games is already throwing out a huge announcement the day before any Gencon festivities even begin! Keep Reading for more info after reading the description on FFG's site.

We're big fans of the FFG's Living Card Game model. It's like playing a CCG but without all the annoying hunting of rare chase cards. So far we've got A Game of Thrones, Call of Cthulhu, and Warhammer: Invasion. Today, a day before Gencon starts, FFG announced that their latest (and greatest?) LCG will be based on the Lord of the Rings, and the narrative will be between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books.

A new card game based on the Lord of the Rings (and the books to boot - not the movie!) is big enough news, but what really makes me want to buy the starter today is the fact that it's a cooperative game. But wait, it's also playable with only one person! The game needs to simply be playable at this point and all the other factors going into it would make it great on its own.

Check back later this week when we hope to have pictures and more info on the game to share with you from the convention floor of Gencon 2010!

(Today's image is taken directly from FFG's website. Seriously, go check it out now and start saving your $40.00 for the starter!)

  1. Sounds A-maz-ing to me! I've been avoiding collectible card games since my favorite Star Wars CCG (the original Decipher version, not the other posers) went the way of the dodo. However, this one really has me drooling. The best part ISN'T the solo play (for me, at least). The best part is that, as a co-op game, I won't have to convince my friends to all go out and blow their cash on this game. I can blow my own cash, and then just hand out the decks. Since it isn't a competitive game, my gamer friends shouldn't have any problem jumping right in. Oh, and it certainly helps to have that familiar Tolkein theme. Should be a hit!
