Mouse Guard Boxset Details and Pictures!

Ok, we're taking a very short break from Shocktober 2010 to talk about this killer announcement just put up over on David Petersen's Blog. We got a glimpse of what may be thanks to an early leak over at Troll and Toad, but David's provided a lot more details and pictures (pictures!) for some of the items including the ridiculously cool cover art for the box (which you can see to the left here).

We really do love Mouse Guard here (check out other THG posts with this label). It was our first Burning Game we ever got hooked into, and hook us it did! I already own two copies of the Hardcover rules, but I can't wait to get my hands on the softcover rules. More importantly, it looks like it's going to be a classic product with the way the box looks.

I can't wait to get a GM screen for this game. The supplement with new rules, characters, and three new adventures really look like they'll stretch the life of the game out quite a bit. Now we'll have rules for a group of Guardsmice riding around on hares in the middle of winter! I don't want to get too deep into the specifics of the announcement, you should really just read it yourself. Also expect a review sometime in the future once we get our grubby little hands on the thing!

The coolest part of the announcement for fans of the game?

"The plan is to release the supplement booklet as a .pdf purchase so that players who already have the original RPG hardcover are not forced to buy the boxed set in order to take advantage of the new rules."

David and Luke Crane (creator of the Burning Wheel system and co-author of the Mouse Guard game) must have put a lot of points into tabltop-forum-whining-wise.

  1. Have you been following the "Legends of the Guard" mini-series, there's some great stuff there! (Especially the second issue)

  2. I tend to buy all my comics in trade, so I'm eagerly awaiting the hardcover release to compliment my Fall and Winter hardcovers. Amazon claims it comes out next month, so consider my breath adequately baited. :D

  3. I second Lowell's comment - there were some excellent stories in that second issue of Legends of the Guard ;-)
